Hosting A 70s Themed Dinner

By Ji Hitzeman

Parties are one of the special events that majority of people enjoyed. Commonly defined as an occasion in which close family members and friends gather together. Hosting any type of party is a complicated yet very fun activity as an individual gets the chance to make decisions based on her knowledge, skills and style. The traditional style is not so popular these days as more people prefer the modern way. Some of the preferred themes are Halloween, kiddy, black and white and prominent decades like 1970's. deciding to have a 70s theme for your party is a good way to show appreciation to the fashion, music, food and other things poplar during this specific decade.

Music is the easiest part of the plan. Music is an integral part of any party as this determines whether your guests will find your party boring or extravagant. If you plan to have the 1970s theme for your party then the music should be a combination of rock, disco and other fast beat songs of the said decade. It is also ideal and much recommended to use a record player rather than the modern mediums.

Food is one of the most important as this will make or break the impression of your invited guests. In choosing the menu, it's safe to stick with the items that were popular back in the day. Try to consider buffet set up comprised of menus like cheese fondue, tuna - noodle casserole, potato chips with sour cream dip, hotdogs on toothpicks and other cocktail dishes like meatballs and tiny sandwiches. The plating and the presentation of each dish should be connected to the theme. You can use some bowls and platters featuring prominent decorative colors popular on this specific year like sunflower yellow, avocado green, orange and brown.

The addition of games and other fun activities is a good decision as this could be something that most of your guests would look forward to. A trivia game with series of questions about 1970s topics is a good warm up after dinner. Creating a 1970s bingo cards is also another option. Other games like charades, operations and twisters can also be added to provide a great feeling of fun and excitement to your invited personalities.

Obviously, decorations should be one of your checklists. For a 70s themed party, you should use decorations like lava lamps, disco balls and fresh floral displays to create a consistent 1970s ambiance. Checking on some florists online who can provide similar services is also ideal as they can help you set up the whole venue with their special arrangements. You can also check on sunflower bouquets and put them in a green vase to enhance the beauty of your tables. Aside from sunflowers, daisies are also good substitutes for decorations. These flowers can be ordered online in just a few minutes and will arrive perfect and fresh on the party date.

Everything discussed above were just few of the things to remember when hosting a 1970s themed party. However, everything will all be perfect if you ask everyone to be in costume during the night of the party.
