By James Garden

The glass door is sometimes forgotten when you speak about wood burning stoves. On sale at your local store you can purchase a specialist product which is ideal for cleaning the glass on the front of your stove. Use this product only as normal domestic cleaners will not clean the debris away and only leave streaks.

Use only products which are stove suitable as other cleaners may be harmful to the fire. Read the labels carefully and seek advise if unsure.

Damaged grates and pans are normally replaced as soon as the damage is spotted. This is good advise and will reduce the amount of damage to your fire. Replace as and when required.

Looking to replace your fire rope then use an stove adhesive only when replacing the cord which is white in colour. The cord is normally found around the door seal and glass front.

A good tip for cleaning the stand which the fire sits on whether it be tile or slate would be to use WD40 as a cleaner to remove any stubborn marks on the stand. A little amount can be used on a cleaning cloth then wipe the area effected.

Take time during the summer to look after your fire when the hot days does not require the stove to be on due to the heat. Leave the glass fronted door open and repaint any part of the stove which has been damaged or is in need of a good lick of paint.

Check over the grouting on the stove and redo if any cracks appear between the flue and the stove. This is an important job as smoke will escape from any cracks which have appeared over the winter time.
