Protecting Your Valuables While In A Hotel

By Joseph Tranturder

If you are going on a vacation soon, you will most likely have to do some traveling to get to your vacation destination.

Driven by public demand for a master list of good, trustworthy hotels around the country, Forbes took on the responsibility of creating and consistently updating a hotel travel guide.

Forbes sends in "inspectors" unannounced to various Salt Lake City hotels. Upon arrival, they identify themselves and their purpose. They then do an inspection of the property, rooms, service, prices, and overall customer satisfaction. They only assign up to three stars in this visit and send in a report.

If the official inspector deems the property worthy, he or she will give the property three stars, and recommend an undercover inspector be sent to see if the hotel is worth one or two extra stars. That undercover inspector will stay a few nights at the hotel and try everything.

Make sure that you understand how you are going to open the safe again after you have closed it. You may have to reset the code on the outside of the safe and you want to make sure that you are fully aware of the process before you put your possessions inside.

One of the most important things to know so you can stay safe in your hotel is that you should always keep your luggage with you. Many people think that this is only to do when you are in the airport.

But hotels are another area where keeping your luggage with you is crucial. If you leave your luggage alone even for one second, someone could steal your bag or something out of your bag.

Many of those points have to do with the quality of the staff. Is the staff extremely well spoken, polite, and clear?

Are they extremely well informed about their rules? Do they handle everything with the utmost care and professionalism?

When you come to the pool, is there someone there to guide you to the towels and a seat? Are all public washrooms well-maintained with fresh towels and plants?

Make sure that you take the time to walk through your hotel room to look at what you are leaving behind. Ensure that you are not leaving the valuable items behind so that you can be sure they are there when you return.

If the person at the front desk happens to say your name and/or your room number out loud, ask to be switched to a different room.

It may seem absurd to be so cautious, but you never know who may be listening in to what you and the hotel clerk are saying.

Fresh flowers are present. Separate showers are available in the same bathroom.

Ice buckets and glasses are made of high quality materials (like glass, or metal). Not only are all the basic necessities included, but the little details are well-accounted for.

This is the picture of a five-star Salt Lake City hotel. It not only provides you a clean place to stay, but it gives you all of the services, opportunities, and materials of the best host.

You will also want to make sure that you understand how you are going to ensure that you do not open the door unless there is someone that you know on the other side. This way, you can be sure that you do not have intruders coming into your room.
