There are many places to play amateur sports in San Francisco. Many of them are more mainstream, like hockey and baseball, and others that you won't think about, like a pool league. Each sport provides a chance for fellowship, friendship, athleticism, and competitiveness among peers.

Golden Gates APA Pool League

The Golden Gates APA Pool League is for anyone from beginners to specialists, thanks to the Equalizer Handicap System, which is like the handicap system in golf. Both 8-ball and 9-ball games are played, with the 9-ball game being different than a "typical 9-ball game." Details on the changed 9-ball game can be found on the group's website. The member's charge is $25, which is a one time charge that may get a person admitted to play in all APA format games throughout the year. The playing locations change on a rotation schedule, which may also be found on the group's internet site.

San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club

The San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club celebrates what their official web site claims is probably one of the fastest-growing team sports in the US. There are 3 groups for men - College, Junior university and Freshmen - and a youth team for ages 5 to 14. The season goes from December to May, with the playoffs being held in June. Nevertheless the organization welcomes new players at any time in the season - you can also come into practices unannounced. There are sessions and masses of practice times available. This is one of the best places to get involved with amateur sports in San Francisco.

San Francisco Youth Baseball League

If you want San Francisco youth baseball, look no farther than the San Francisco Youth Baseball League. Registration starts in Jan and Feb, with the season starting in March and ends sometime in late May or early June. The purpose of the league is to give each kid as much playing time as practicable while instilling the love of baseball into them. The teams are separated into nine different age groups. There's no draft to allot players to teams, so each player can be on a team with their mates and classmates rather than total strangers. To qualify to play in this league, each kid must either reside in San Francisco or be registered at college there.

San Francisco Youth Hockey Sabercats

The San Francisco Youth Hockey Sabercats is perfect for those children and teenagers that wish to try their skills with a stick and a puck on the ice. There are several different groups based totally on age. There is also a learn to skate class where each player will learn all the basic essentials of skating in order to hold their own on the ice. Their registration information is up on their website, along with a list of what kit is required for each kid to be suitable to play.
