The Intricate Workings Of An Avionic Repairs Company

By Michael Obrien

Companies specializing in avionic repairs offer a variety of services. Established concerns of good repute are members of the various types of engineering companies linked to the building and maintenance of aircraft. Operating with all the required certification in place, they are quite adept at tending to the latest aircraft as well as any of the grand old versions and models.

The one man business is as important as the huge corporates with their extensive fleets. There is no exception either to military or commercial airplanes as they are given the same top priorities when it boils down to repair work. Technicians and engineers are the lifeline of the industry. Accurate diagnostics should always be in place that will lead to a proper service rendered.

Test engineers need at least a dozen years of accumulated training and experience before they are allowed senior positions in this job. The test equipment that is used must be regularly upgraded to keep up with technology. This is needed for the company to hold on to its valuable clientele.

Big maintenance establishments have specialized divisions that see to specific needs and maintenance on the aircraft. Instruments, electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical parts are classified into certain areas. This also applies to the production and design of contemporary devices and fixtures. Heavy frame maintenance is a regular performance. The fundamental structure, fuel tank, aircraft composition and avionic conversions are particularly focused on.

Faulty propellers cannot be fixed unless certified documentation is in order that allows for the maintenance works to be performed on it. Line maintenance work involves the daily or nightly repairs of a craft. Engineers are also on standby for any emergency calls. Engine modifications, cleaning of the exterior and interior and handling cargo are duties listed on the line maintenance services.

Companies are particularly strict when it comes to the storage or disassembling of an aircraft. Rules must be obeyed and owner's instructions followed. After an aircraft has been stripped, the team also places the order for the required inventory. Acceptable storage rates are also agreed upon. Excess metal goes into the recycling bin or is re-used.

Besides propellers, certified documentation is also required for airframes, power plants and components when repairing an aircraft. Components are referred to as the doors, windows, wings and interior furnishing. Smoke detectors have to be of a specified sort to comply with rules and regulations. Inspections are customary for water and waste management as well.

The legal certificate for repairing airframes will clearly state which particular craft the company is allowed to fix. Popular and well-known aircraft are Boeing, Airbus and Cessna. For companies allowed to work on the engines requires a power plant certification. This has an expiry date and has to be renewed from time to time.

Because of the nature of avionic repairs, customer service has to be of the highest order. Mistakes are simply not an option and all technical problems have to be solved within a certain period of time and the cost efficiently priced. This will make for a very happy client and a return visit could certainly be on the cards.
