Wedding Event Designers Career Description

Wedding event designers have a unique career in that they have the responsibility of making all of a bride's dreams come true. They have the capability of turning a plain ballroom into the dream reception for a happy couple. This is a very fulfilling career in because this person is directly involved with the very beginning of a bride and groom's new life together.

At the beginning of your career, you may be required to work under an individual in this or a similar field. You can also attend bridal events and shows as well as assist friends and family with their special days. Look for courses and classes in food presentation, flower arranging, and event planning to round out your experience and add to your resume.

One of the first tasks you may have at your new job is to assist a bride with selecting and wording her invitations. Observe her personality, the way she talks, and the manner in which she dresses and accessorizes. All of this will give you clues as to her personal style. Be sure to make her understand the importance of proofing an invitation before ordering and allowing plenty of time to address and send the invitations.

Linens may also be a big decision. They should match the theme or colors of the reception. They can be patterned or solid or even a mixture if the couple so desires. It is your job to find them exactly what they want at the right price. You must also work with the reception venue to set up the schedules of placing the linen on tables to work with the food service team that is setting up the tables.

Special lighting can totally change the atmosphere of your event. Use up-lighting to give the room an extra-romantic glow. Spotlights will highlight the special moments of the evening. Your responsibility will be to get the best lighting products that will achieve the lighting goals for the least amount of money.

Flowers can make a wedding truly spectacular. This position requires a knowledge of the different types of blooms and arrangements for an event such as this. Forming relationships with local florists can help keep pricing down and quality consistent.

Room arrangements will definitely depend on the bride and groom's preferences and budget. Some may prefer a head table and some not. Rectangular tables for the guests can be very dramatic but round ones are easier for conversation. Helping the couple decide on the best arrangements will require your expertise on flow and aesthetics.

To join the ranks of wedding event designers, you must be extremely committed. The hours are long, the work demanding and the clients can be choosy or difficult to please. In the end, the satisfaction you get from a job well done and a happy couple on their way to their honeymoon makes it all worthwhile.
